Free Car Record Check Online

A free car record check can be performed online. With the advent of online databases it is possible to check car records, license plate information, VIN number data, recall and safety information and possibly owner information. This means that you might be able to save yourself a trip to the DMV and check a car record information from the convenience of your home.

Car Record By License Plate

A free car record check can be performed with a license plate number. If you have the complete license plate number and state of registration then you can find car records online. Typically online vehicle databases are for reference only and if you need an official copy then you’ll still have to visit the DMV. With a license plate check you’ll be able to find vehicle information, VIN numbers, recall and safety information and possible owner information. Typically owner information is very limited. In order to get an official license plate check you’ll still have to visit the DMV in person.

Car Record By VIN Number

A VIN number search can reveal every detail of your vehicle inside and out. A VIN number typically contains 17 digits that describe everything from make and model to the trim and paint color of your car. The VIN number is an alpha-numeric code that the car manufacturer uses to list the details of the vehicle at production. Each car is given a unique VIN number. With a car VIN number you can find the license plate information as well as recall and safety information. This information is typically more vehicle specific and lists different information than a license plate check will have.

Safety and Recall Information

Safety and recall information is typically listed with a free car record check however this data is not always current. In order to get a more comprehensive car safety and recall listing visit the NHTSA. This government agency will have the most current recall and safety data available for all vehicles in the United States
