Missouri driving records, also called a driver abstract, is a collection of information about a person’s driving history. Individuals, employers, and insurance companies may all request driving records for different purposes. If you would like to know what is on your driving record, you will need to request one.

Requesting Missouri Driving Records

Personal information on driving records is considered confidential, according to the Federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act or DPPA. Only certain people are authorized to request a driving record without expressed consent from the driver.

Any person who has a driver’s license can obtain their Missouri driving records. This is possible by going to the Missouri license office in person or requesting a record via mail, email or fax. In both cases, the price for obtaining the record is nominal

Non Personal Information

Persons, such as employers or insurance companies, looking to obtain a person’s driving record may only request a non-personal record. This record is a shortened version, which contains only non-personal information.

This includes Missouri driving history information such as violations and speeding tickets. In order to get the entire version of another person’s driving record, the company would need to have written consent from the record holder.

Personal Information

Driving records that contain personal information may only be distributed to the record holder, anyone the record holder has given consent to, and any entities that fall under the exemptions of the DPPA.

These driving records contain personal information including date of birth, address, height, weight, eye color, social security number, photograph, disability information, and driver’s license number.

DPPA Exemptions

As stated earlier, the Federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act prohibits the distribution of a citizen’s driving record unless expressly consented by the individual or the request is an entity that is exempt under the Act. There are 13 different entities that are exempt from the federal Act.

Some of these include:
