Maintaining the driving records of all Texas residents with a driver’s license is the responsibility of Texas Department of Public Safety. The Texas driving record maintained by the Texas DPS includes your driving history such as:
- Time and date of license issuance
- Traffic accidents
- Traffic violations
- Suspensions or revocations
- Major violations
- DUI reports
As your driving history is a public record, people other than you can view it. Those permitted to make a request for and view your Texas driving records include:
- Potential employers
- Insurance companies
- Government, legal or law enforcement agencies
You can make Texas Driving Records Request for four different categories. These include:
Status record:
The status record includes:
- Your personal information such as your DOB and mailing address
- Driver’s license status
- The original application date for your Texas driver’s license
3-year record:
The 3-year driving record provides your three-year driving history and includes:
- Everything that is part of status record
- Traffic accidents
- Suspensions or revocations
- Violations
Certified 3-year record:
The certified 3-year record includes everything that is part of 3-year record with one obvious difference—the certified 3-year record is a certified driving record.
Certified complete abstract:
Certified complete abstract includes everything that is part of your driving history.
There are two way of making Texas driving records request: online and by mail.
By mail
To get a request for your driving record processed through mail, you’ll need to:
- Fill out and mail the Texas DPS Application for copy of driver record to: Texas Department of Public Safety

Austin, TX 78714 - Pay through check or money order: $4 for status record, $6 for 3-year record, $10 for certified 3-year record, $10 for certified complete abstract
Online
You make an online Texas Driving Records Request by:
- Visiting the online portal provided by the Texas DPS
- Entering your DOB, driver’s license number, DPS audit number and last four digits of your social security number
- Pay through credit card $4 for status record, $6 for 3-year record, $10 for certified 3-year record, $10 for certified complete abstract
