Historically, a California driving records request was obtained by making a trip to the DMV. Now with the advent of the internet and online databases, anyone can get a copy of their California driving record from the convenience of their home. This can be accomplished a couple ways.
The first way is to visit the California DMV website, listed above, wait in line and fill our the driving record request form. If the driving record request is for you then you will be able to show your ID and the DMV will print up a copy. You can also access the California DMV online and print up a form and mail it in, with a nominal fee, and it’ll probably take a couple weeks to get this back to you.
The second way to obtain California driving records is to visit an online public records database. By searching online databases you will be able to view driving records from the convenience of your home. You will need a first and last name and state to search driving records. Additionally you’ll be able to perform multiple searches without the hassle of going to the DMV. This is all legal and public information that is available via the Freedom of Information Act of 1966 ( FIOA ). One important note of searching for driving records online is that many people have the same first and last name. So in order verify you’ve found the correct driving record, use the person’s age or address.
