Hawaii DOT Offices – Locations, Hours & Phone Numbers

The state of Hawaii has a Department of Transportation, but no one Department of Motor Vehicles that takes all the counties under its umbrella. The counties work with their own DMV offices for the County of Maui, County of Kauai, County of Honolulu, and County of Hawaii. For the sole task of registering a new vehicle, you must contact these county offices. See the above listings for Hawaii DOT offices

In Hawaii it is normal to come across third party vendors who provide you the same services but are only seldom affiliated with the Hawaiian government. The official Hawaii DOT plans, builds modes, and operates transportation on air, water, and land.

In only the Honolulu office will you be able to make road test appointments. In all other counties, you can enroll in driver’s education, take the drivers training, take the practice test, sign up for a prep course, and even be able to enroll in a traffic course. The offices also let you request your driving records that has your driving history, or the record of someone else you might be hiring; you can review criminal records, and run background checks.

Through the county DMV sites, you can find information on Registration and Titling. For the Hawaii county, you can renew registration online. The Honolulu site lets you renew vehicle registration, calculate fees and taxes, order plates, and even inquire about the vehicle title. The Kauai County site allows for renewal of registration online. The Maui County site lets you renew registration directly online and has information on the current wait times at the DMV offices near you.

The State of Hawaii Boat Registration Services let you renew boat registration online. You can also request for replacement on a stolen, destroyed, or a lost registration card, report a stolen boat directly, and report any changes that you made to the vessel.
