South Carolina Driving Records

There may be many reasons why you need a current copy of your driving record.

In South Carolina there are two options for obtaining a copy of your driving record: applying at the South Carolina state website or requesting a copy from a national database. Here is how to do both:

To request a copy from the state, go to the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) public services website:

On the right hand side of the screen you will see a blue box with a first section, called “Driver Services.” Click on the link called “Obtain your Certified Driver Record ($).”

When you click the link you will be taken to a page detailing the Privacy Laws which protect this information. After reading it, check the box at the bottom next to the sentence, “I have read and understand the information above.” Then click the large Submit button in the bottom center of the screen.

In order to order a copy, you need to have information ready to enter into the site.

1. You must have either your driver’s license number or your personal identification card number.
2. You must have Adobe Reader installed on your computer. There is a link for the free download included on the request form in case you need it.
3. A valid card (MasterCard, Discover, or Visa) to pay the cost of the copy.
4. $6.00, the cost of the copy.

The form asks for your social security number, date of birth, the date the license was issued, and the address appearing on your license.

After filling in all the required information and clicking “Submit,” you will be taken to a screen to provide payment information to cover the $6.00 fee.

Both 3 year and 10 year driving records are available. The South Carolina DMV will make an unofficial copy of your record available immediately as an Adobe PDF file. An official copy will be mailed.

If you choose to get your driving record from a national database, follow these easy steps:

Once here, click on “South Carolina,” located in the right hand column in the sixth space from the bottom. You will see a link to South Carolina Driving Records Request Form, which gives you a form to print, fill out, and mail to the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles.
